This is our final 'ride', our super intelligent lecturer came out with this fantastic idea, which is toy design. This final 'ride' is a individual assignment and students will get hands-on experience by 'building' their own toy based on assigned body parts that given by respective tutors.
TOY DESIGN: PLAY AND THE ACT OF PLAY
EMPATHY
I have look up onto the Internet on types of play and act of play and I have also recalled back on what I have played during my childhood. I have draw out the materials or objects I can think of. Since I was assigned to arm and hand (body part), I have draw out the movement of arm and hand I usually act out in daily basis and leisure.
DEFINE
In this stage, I included the three 'W' which is, who, what and why we need to play. Moreover, I have also draw out the objects or materials which I found in my house and categorized as three different categories which are, recycled, daily and found objects or materials. I have also created senarios on my assigned body part which is arm and hand to further helps me on my initial stage on making my toy.
IDEATION
In ideation stage, I came out with three different ideas which I think it is suitable for all group of ages to play with. I have also stated the aims, method to play the games and checklist. I have chosen the first ideation out of the three it is because my first initial was only making a maze. Since I was assigned to arm and hand (body part) I wanted to fully utilized the idea of having arm and hand to play with my toy. While further developing the toy I came across with a concept on 'the importance on road safety'. Therefore, I have combined maze and road safety into my first ideation. Since I wanted to make this game or toy as fun and educational game, I have came out with eight questions about road safety.
PROTOTYPE
In prototype stage, I came across difficulties while I was 'building' my toy such as my toy was not able to move smoothly while playing it. In order to solve this problem, I have looked up on the Internet to 'fix' my toy. It was a great experience because I get to experience to build my own toy and play it with my both hands.
PRESENT
'Ta-Da'! My toy is finally done!
