SPACE AND SENSORY
In the final individual assignment, students are required to re-interpret individual's 1:1 structure from assignment 2 which is the bamboo project by further expanding and creating a design intent (narrative) into an architectural journey by proposing two to three spaces so as develop the skills learnt from assignment one and two to produce a maximum 30mᶟ physical model in the scale of 1:10 and four A1 presentation board. Students were to select 2-3 materials which are grey board(concrete), white modelling board(steel), perspex(glass) and balsa(timber) to apply in student's model to create a sensorial qualities and suitability for the space. Before producing the final model, students are also encourage to produce two or more test models with scaled to further develop and re-interpret student's design. Furthermore, student are also to present verbally for 10 minute in front of the panels along with four A1 presentation board(portrait) that includes: one scaled exploded axonometric(1), 1:10 orthographic drawings which consists of two elevations (front and side), one section and floor plan(2), two 1:2/1:5 architectural details drawings(3), one A3 size of architectural abstract drawing to show the sensorial quality and the materiality of the project(4) and produce four (100x100mm) tattoo stamps(5) in manually and monochromatically. Last but not least, students are also to require to compile all initial sketch, design ideas and exploration in A3 format.
BLADE 28
BLADE 28 is an enclosed space for user/individual to rest after a hectic day by embracing and overcoming his/her unwanted emotions.
This assignment is the continuation of my assignment 2, resting. I thought of exploring the suitable angles/positions for resting so as the activities can be done in the space. Therefore, I have proposed two spaces which is the embracing and overcoming spaces. In the embracing space, the user/individual can let out all his emotions by punching/pushing the wall. After the user have let out all his unwanted emotions, he/she can overcome the unwanted emotions by resting.
MOCK-UP MODEL 1
I tried to incorporate the angles and positions of human resting with the design elements in my first mock up model so as the senses such as touch, sight and hearing. Before that, I was devastated due to too much information in the narrative so as not sure the way to start. Therefore, out tutor suggested me to create a narrative which is simple yet logical. Therefore, it lead me to my second mock up model.
MOCK-UP MODEL 2
In my second model, I have explored the activities in the space so as the materiality. Therefore, user can utilize all the space. For example, I have came out with a 180 degree movable panel (white rectangular board) so that user could use that to embrace his/her emotions by punching or pushing and the panel(Aluminum) will create a dented fist on it to show that the user is releasing his emotions. Moreover, I have also discovered the angle between 30-45 degree is the most comfortable position for napping and it also prevents from back pain(V-shape angled in the second and third picture).
FINAL MODEL
In my final model, I have enclosed the space partially so as added a shelter to the resting area for shelter, safety and privacy. Moreover, I have also included irregular circle of plasticine (top middle picture) as hex for user to climb up the resting area so as emphasizing the user is overcoming his emotions by gripping the hex as he climb up to his resting area. Furthermore, the mirror on top of the resting area (top middle picture) is emphasize as reflection so as calming down when rain drop drops onto the mirror.
